July 30 Seminar and Forum

PICTURES EXCHANGE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (PECS)

9:00AM - 12:00NN

Developed in 1985 as a unique augmentative/ alternative training package that teaches children and adults with autism and other communication deficits to initiate communication. Using the PECS, the student learns to spontaneously initiate communicative exchanges. People using PECS are taught to approach and give a picture of a desired item to a communicative partner in exchange for that item. Using PECS, students learn to gain the attention of the communication partner in order to make a request. Every step in PECS was developed from the principles of ABA.
