ASP Batangas Chapter Partners with Center in Autism Seminar

ASP Batangas Chapter institutional member St. Therese of the Child Jesus Special Learning and Development Center spearheads the “Embracing Special Differences: An Awareness Seminar on Children with Special Needs,” last July 17, 2010 at The Alpa Hotel, Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City.

Sixty-Five (65) participants composed of parents, Special Education and Regular Teachers from public and private schools and college students from local universities attended the seminar.

The seminar aims to reach out to relevant sectors in the communities of Batangas on the accommodation and management of children with autism and other special needs. The seminar also aims to aid the chapter and partner schools in disseminating the necessary information for a better understanding of participants.

Ma. Cecilia Cardasto, Special Education Curriculum Consultant of the said center spoke on the “Management of Children with Special needs in the School.” She was joined by the center’s resident Occupational Therapist, Jacklyn G. Cuevas, who spoke on the “Intervention Programs Administered to Children with Special Needs.”

Other guest speakers were Victoria G. Fababier, Education Program Supervisor for Private Schools, DepEd Batangas, who spoke on “The Role of the Department of Education in the Accommodation of Children with Special Needs” and Dr. Jocelyn Alonzo – Eusebio, Developmental Pediatrician, who spoke on “Diagnosis, Clinical Assessment and Medical Management of Children with Special Needs.”
