The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

All These Things Will be Added

By: Catherine Genovia

This year’s 14th National Autism Consciousness Week was a huge success! ASP National had the celebrations from January 17 – 24, 2010.

Believing in putting God first, ASP started the celebrations with a Thanksgiving Service at The Atrium of SM North EDSA. The service was attended by ASP National Officers and Trustees together with CWAs, families, friends and supporters.

The Best Things in Life are Free

ASP Family Day followed at the Sky Dome, also of SM North EDSA. It was a fun filled day of excitement and freebies- make your own art; face painting by Club Journey Inc.; free caricature by Gabby Atienza, person with Aspergers.

Free massages? Yes, by our friends from NCDA (National Council for Disability Affairs). Free demo of Therapeutic Massages for CWAs were given by Occupational Therapy Association of the Philippines (OTAP).

The Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts) Discovery group prepared a special exhibition number. After the performance, CWAs were also called to participate in a Wushu Demo.

One of the most anticipated events of the Family Day is the Autism Talent Show. PWA John Kyle Binungcal, came all the way from Bataan to join other Autism Stars, Deo Cruzada, Brendan Delgado, Gabe Nazareth, Jonathan Onnagan, Dean Hernandez, Justin Bitanga, Ron Famorca; who made their families proud with their performances.

A Good Day

One mother was seen laughing uncontrollably as Comedic Magician, Tito Cris and friends of CWA Ian Noel Viado and Jamerix Guillermo, went along with Tito Cris’ antics. Pagkakaisa Volunteers Inc. (led by Ate Alice Alagos), provided parlor games for the children, as well as for the caregivers. People laughed their hearts out and temporarily forgot about their problems.

When PWA Bryan Lu, lead vocalist and percussionist of Sparkle band, took center stage as band mates started jamming “Tonight’s Gonna be a Good Night,”talent show host Macoy, brother of PWA Conrad (sons of ASP Trustee Fredes Javier) can be seen tapping his shoes.

Suddenly, a trail of human soul train, led by Cathy Genovia, ASP Program Coordinator can be seen on the right side of the Sky Dome. Cathy donned on a neon green wig and was joined by dancing friends from the vibrant PVI. BOTs also went along the catchy pop song, rose from their seats, and started waving their hands and danced.

We dedicate the Family Day celebrations to all Filipino children with autism and we are thankful for the blessings showered upon us. ASP continues to believe that Sharing Hopes, will Build more Dreams for a brighter tomorrow.

Happy Family Day!
